Syed Taqi Abedi emerges as a significant contributor to the literary landscape. Despite his medical profession, Abedi’s passion for Urdu literature has been a constant thread throughout his life, originating from his student days. The Urdu literary realm is fortunate to have someone of Abedi’s calibre, who has consistently nurtured the growth of this rich tradition.
This abstract delves into Abedi’s profound admiration for Khawaja Altaf Hussain Hali, a prominent poet, and explores the depth of his connection to Hali’s works. Abedi meticulously examines Hali’s poetry, ghazals, criticism, and prose, displaying a deep affection for the diverse facets of Hali’s literary expressions. Hali, known for his moral, didactic, and children’s poems, finds a dedicated analyst in Abedi.
While Hali’s association with the Aligarh movement and Syed Ahmad Khan is acknowledged, Abedi sheds light on another crucial influence — the mushairas organised by Anjuman Punjab. Only participating in four such gatherings, Hali presented poems like “Barkha Rut”, “Nishat-e-Umeed,” “Insaf,” and “Hub-e-Watan.” Abedi’s analytical lens dissects these poems, revealing the transformation in Hali’s thinking brought about by these mushairas. This abstract offers a comprehensive review titled “The Poems of Hali in the View of Taqi Abedi,” showcasing Abedi’s meticulous research and editing in presenting a nuanced perspective on Hali’s poetic legacy.
