An Analysis of Poetic Craft of Nazir Akbarabadi's Poetry

Abstract

Nazir Akbar Abadi is an eminent figure in Urdu poetry. He is the first public (Awami) Urdu poet. He laid the foundation of the Urdu poem (nazam) and led it to its climax.  Apart from Nazam, he was a great expert in Ghazal, but he is better known for Nazam. His poetry is distinctive for its mode, tone, rhythm, style, and harmony, which make Nazir stand out among other poets. Technically, his poetry is multifarious, unique and diverse. He possesses an abundant vocabulary, which is the reason the skilful use of rhetoric in its literal and contextual meaning (Sanaae Lafzi O Maanwi) is found in his poetry. The use of such technicalities makes his poetry meaningful and well-crafted. A very splendid fusion of literal and contextual meaning is found in his poetry. Therefore, from a technical perspective, the following Article explores the union of literal and contextual use of meaning (Sanaae Lafzi O Maanwi) in Nazir’s poetry.
