Abstract

The translation of short stories from various languages into Balochi has played a pivotal role in shaping modern Balochi literature, with Urdu being a particularly significant source language. Among the prominent Urdu writers, Saadat Hasan Manto stands out as a revolutionary figure whose works have profoundly influenced Balochi literary traditions. Manto’s short stories, renowned for their social realism and bold exploration of human conditions, have been widely translated into Balochi, enriching the target language with new semantic features and cultural depth. This research paper delves into the historical and artistic analysis of Manto’s short stories translated into Balochi, examining the techniques employed by translators, such as deletion and addition, to bridge linguistic and cultural gaps. By exploring the interplay between the source and target languages, the study highlights how Manto’s themes of societal critique and human resilience are preserved and adapted in Balochi translations. The paper also underscores the broader implications of such translations in fostering cross-cultural literary exchanges and preserving the essence of revolutionary narratives in Balochi literature.
