Abstract

Urdu poetry has an extensive history of Elegiac literature. Mohsin Naqvi is a great name in Urdu poetry.  Along with the diversity of topics in his poetry, a beautiful style and softness of tone are also prominent. He tried all genres of poetry, but Elegy is his speciality. He is considered one of the great poets of elegy. In his elegies, the element of love and devotion to the Prophet (PBUH) and his family is prominent. The effects of the elegy on all genres of poetry are significant. Mohsin's entire poetry is embedded in the elegiac environment, as his system of symbolism, metaphorical representation and similes points towards new meaning associated with Elegies.  In this article, an attempt has been made to shed light on the same poetic influences in Mohsin Naqvi's poetry.
