The Dastan written by Essvi Khan Bahadur'' The Story of Maher Afrooz and Dilbar'' is the first Urdu Dastan of North India written in the common language of the period. In this period, the Dastans were written in a difficult and Persian-influenced language. Based on this, the writers of Fort William College later popularised plain language and provided an easy literary style to Urdu literature.
